After having renewed all of its series broadcasted in 2018-2019, the CW has chosen to leave little room for novelties. There will be at least three new series scheduled on the American channel 2019-2020 grid.

For the upcoming season, The CW has bet on stability by renewing fourteen series. It will however add three new programs to its lineup: Nancy Drew, Batwoman with Ruby Rose and Katy Keene, the Riverdale spin-off. These series could be joined by a fourth: Glamorous.

Green light for three series

There was little doubt that the Batwoman series would have the green light from the American channel. The character of Batwoman played by Ruby Rose and introduced during an Arrow-verse crossover was particularly appreciated. In this version of Batwoman, we will follow Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), the second iteration of the Batwoman character. She is described as “an extroverted and highly trained street fighter” ready to do anything to reverse the growing crime rate in Gotham City. She will also face her own demons, including her father and sworn enemy, Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott). The casting of the series also includes Rachel Skarsten (Reign), Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf), Camus Johnson (Luke Cage) and Nicole Kang (You).

Greg Berlanti, who is already behind Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow or The Flash, will have another of his productions on air in 2019-2020: Katy Keene. The spin-off of Riverdale will focus on the eponymous character played by Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars). The actress will be accompanied by Ashleigh Murray who will take over her role as Josie McCoy. The series, thought of as a musical, will follow the adventures of Katy Keene and her group of friends trying to break into New York. Jonny Beauchamp, Julia Chan, Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount will also be on the bill of Katy Keene.

Nancy Drew is the last series which got a season. It will be a new adaptation of the young detective who already had a place of honour on television and cinema. The synopsis of this new version is about 18-year-old Nancy Drew (Kennedy McCann) who is about to leave her hometown to attend university. But a family tragedy forces her to stay an extra year and she finds herself involved in a murder investigation. The cast is for the moment composed of Leah Lewis, Freddie Prinze Jr., Tunji Kasim (Nearly Falous, Shetland), Maddison Jaizani (Versailles, Into the Badlands), Alex Saxon (The Fix, The Fosters) and Alivna August (Siren, The Other Kingdom). Pamela Sue Martin, the face of Nancy Drew in the series The Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew Mysteries, will also participate in the series.
