Following in the footsteps of Joe Locke, another star of the Heartstopper series is about to set foot on Broadway as Kit Connor is set to star in the musical Romeo + Juliet. He will play the lead role of Romeo, while Juliet will be played by Rachel Zegler, best known for her performances in West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The official synopsis for Romeo + Juliet is as follows: “The youth are f***ed. Left to their own devices in their parents’ world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate. The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way.”
The musical, inspired by the work of William Shakespeare, will be directed by Sam Gold and will open on Broadway this fall. Romeo + Juliet will feature music by Jack Antonoff and choreography by Sonya Tayeh, who previously worked on the musical Moulin Rouge.
