Warning: this article contains spoilers about season 2 of Batwoman.

In the spring of 2020, Ruby Rose had surprised everyone by announcing her departure from the Batwoman series. Playing the role of Kate Kane aka Batwoman, the actress had taken the production by surprise. After some time, they finally decided to introduce a new character to take over. At the time, Caroline Dries, showrunner of the series, had explained this choice “to also respect everything that Ruby [Rose] put into the Kate Kane character”.

The showrunner had also promised that the character would not be killed off and the explanation given at the beginning of season 2 on the absence of Kate Kane did not really go in this direction. Finally, a few months later, Caroline Dries kept her word and the character made a brief return in episode 8 entitled Survived Much Worse.

Even if Kate Kane is alive and well, don’t expect to find the character you learned to love in the first season. Indeed, unrecognizable because of the injuries she suffered during the crash of her plane, Kate Kane will now be played by Wallis Day, an actress who was previously seen in Krypton.

The second part of season 2 should allow us to discover what happened to the character and how much her personality has been affected by these events.
