Hard blow for the Batwoman series: Ruby Rose, the actress who plays the lead role, has decided to leave the series after its first season. The CW will need to find a new face to play Kathy Kane aka Batwoman.

In a statement, Ruby Rose stated: “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

No reason was given for the sudden departure. While some might think she left because of the injury she sustained during filming, Deadline sources say that this is not the case.

Since the announcement, Berlanti Prods. and WBTV have confirmed their desire to continue working on the development of the Batwoman series over the long term. To do so, they will re-cast the character of Kathy Kane and will once again entrust it to an LGBTQ actress. As part of a joint statement, they also thanked Ruby Rose for her work: “Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best”.
