Shadow and Bone: Netflix reveals the season 2 release date

Shadow and Bone, a hit when it was released in April 2021, will soon be back on Netflix. Indeed, new episodes of the series will be released from March 16, 2023 on the streaming platform. Good news for fans of the adaptation of the work of Leigh Bardugo who could not wait any longer.

Airing almost two years after the first episodes, this new season will allow us to follow Alina (Jessie Mei Li) as she is on the run. The official synopsis adds that she will have to face Kirigan (Ben Barnes) again as he has a new army of terrifying monsters and fearsome Grisha. To have a chance against him, Alina and Mal (Archie Renaux) gather new allies and go in search of two mythical creatures that will amplify her powers. As for the Crows, back home in Ketterdam, they will have to deal with old rivals and even older grudges that threaten their place in the Barrel, but also their lives.

Regarding the upcoming episodes, Eric Heisserer, showrunner of the series, said, “The most wonderful thing about Season 2 is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we’d left in precarious positions at the end of Season 1. There’s a lot of potential for them this season.” He adds, “They have to face the consequences for their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way.” Leigh Bardugo, the author of the original books, says, “We are going to get to see some incredible new characters. We’re going to see characters interacting with each other, questing with each other, fighting and laughing with each other, who we never got to see together in the books — and I think that’s a unique thing about this show.”

In addition to Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li and Archie Renaux, the cast of Shadow and Bone Season 2 will see the return of Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), Daisy Head (Genya Safin), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar). The cast will also welcome new characters played by Patrick Gibson (Prince Nikolai Lanstov), Jack Wolfe (Wylan Hendricks), Anna Leong Brophy (Tamar Kir-Bataar) and Lewis Tan (Tolya Yul-Bataar).
