On the sidelines of the IGN Fan Fest 2021 during which the Shadow and Bone series did a panel, Netflix revealed a 2:40 minute trailer highlighting the richness of this adaptation of Leigh Bardugo‘s work.

The series, which will mix the characters from the sagas Grisha and Six of Crowns, is intended to be radically different from the books, in the most astonishing way possible according to the author. The first season of 8 episodes, expected on April 23rd on Netflix, will take us to meet Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) an Orphan soldier who discovers an extraordinary power that could liberate her country. As the threat of the monstrous Shadow Fold grows, Alina must leave everything she knows to join a magical army of elite soldiers called Grisha. But as she struggles to master her powers, she discovers that in this fantasy world, the line between friend and enemy is blurred and appearances are misleading. Dangerous forces are at work, including a band of charismatic criminals, and she will need more than magic to survive.

The cast for this first season also includes Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Ben Barnes (General Kirigan), Sujaya Dasgupta (Zoya Nazyalensky), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), Daisy Head (Genya Safin) and Simon Sears (Ivan).
