Without much surprise, Shadow and Bone will be back for a second season on Netflix. Since its launch, the series based on Leigh Bardugo’s novels has already reached over 55 million subscribers. Shadow and Bone has also been ranked in the top 10 in 93 countries and was #1 in 79 countries including France, the United States, Australia, Spain, Germany and South Africa.
This renewal, announced during Netflix’s Geeked Week, won’t come as a huge surprise. Eric Heisserer, the creator of the series had indicated to have a plan for 3 seasons, and the site What’s On Netflix revealed in an article from March 16, 2021 that the series had already been renewed unofficially. An information now confirmed.
Following the renewal, Eric Heisserer said, “I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo”. Leigh Bardugo added: “I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going. There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore”.
As a reminder, Shadow and Bone follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), an orphan girl who has the power to free her country from the monstrous Shadow Fold. But as she struggles to master her powers, she discovers that in this fantasy world, the line between friend and enemy is thin and appearances are deceiving.
