While House of the Dragon has just started filming its second season, HBO has officially ordered another Game of Thrones spin-off. Let’s take a look.

HBO will continue to rely on Game of Thrones to fill its schedule for years to come. But can we blame the network when House of the Dragon, the first spin-off series from the original program, has been a huge success worldwide? No, especially since George R.R. Martin has written many short stories to expand the Game of Thrones universe. And it is on one of them that the next spin-off will be based.

Titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the series will adapt the novels Tales of Dunk and Egg and take place a hundred years before the events of the original series. It will follow a young, naive, but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Great, also known as Dunk, and his squire, Aegon Targaryen, nicknamed Egg. In a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, great destinies, powerful enemies, and dangerous exploits await these unlikely and incomparable friends.

George R.R. Martin unveils more details

While the names of the main cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, George R.R. Martin has provided additional details about the series on his blog.

According to the author, the first season could consist of six episodes and will adapt the first of three short stories centered on Dunk and Egg. We will see how our two heroes met for the first time during a tournament in Ashford Meadow. George R.R. Martin adds that the adaptation will be as faithful as possible and that the pilot has already been written by Ira Parker, producer and writer of the House of the Dragon series.

The author states that no date has been set for airing (or filming), but he hopes for the success of the series so that he can adapt the other two short stories that have already been published.
