After the angels and demons in Lucifer, the super-villains in Smallville, Tom Welling will tackle all kinds of supernatural creatures in the series The Winchesters.

This Sunday, October 9, 2022, the series The Winchesters had the honor of a panel at the New York Comic Con. It was the occasion for Jensen Ackles, one of the producers of the Supernatural prequel, to announce that Tom Welling has been added to the cast.

Known for having played Clark Kent in Smallville and Marcus Pierce in Lucifer, he will play this time an emblematic character of the family of Sam and Dean Winchester. Indeed, Tom Welling has been chosen to play Samuel Campbell, Mary’s father. A role that was given to Mitch Pileggi in Supernatural.

Robbie Thompson, executive producer and showrunner of the series, explains that the idea of giving this role to Tom Welling came from Jensen and Danneel Ackles: “Jensen and Danneel brought up the idea of Tom Welling and the second his name was mentioned we all knew he was the perfect person for the part. Tom is a fantastic actor and wonderful human, and we are so excited to be welcoming him to The Winchesters and the Supernatural Family.

A “late” first appearance

Samuel Campbell’s character won’t make his first appearance until episode 7 of the first season of The Winchesters.

Described as “grumpy and pragmatic,” this experienced hunter, who prefers actions to words, will team up with Mary, his daughter, and her friends to defeat the most dangerous monster he has ever known. But that won’t be the only challenge for Samuel, who must also repair his broken relationship with his daughter.

Airing October 11, 2022 on The CW, The Winchesters will follow the youth of Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and John Winchester (Drake Rodger), the parents of Sam and Dean.
