Tom Ellis has found a new role on TV. After successfully portraying the character of Lucifer in the eponymous series for six seasons, the British actor has been cast in the serial adaptation of Washington Black, the novel written by Esi Edugyan.

The series will follow the adventures of George Washington “Wash” Black, an 11-year-old boy who must flee a sugar plantation in Barbados after a shocking death threatens to upend his life.

To help him, he can count on Christopher “Titch” Wilde, the character played by Tom Ellis. Titch is described as an eccentric and passionate steampunk inventor whose youthful enthusiasm masks an inner vulnerability. During their extraordinary journey aboard an airship, Titch gradually becomes Wash’s mentor and father figure.

The 9-episode series for Hulu will also feature Ernest Kingsley Jr. (The Sparticle Mystery), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Iola Evans (The 100), Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune) and Eddie Karanja.
