After 15 seasons of good and loyal service, Supernatural has left the CW in 2020. But, the American network is not done with the universe of the series yet. According to Deadline, a prequel centered on the Winchester parents is currently in development.

The project, untitled The Winchesters and told from the point of view of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), will follow the epic, never-before-seen love story between John and Mary Winchester and will show how much they did to save not only their love, but also the entire world. Will these roles be played by Matt Cohen and Amy Gumenick who were the younger versions of these characters? No word yet on the casting.

Behind The Winchesters is Jensen Ackles, Danneel Harris Ackles and their company Chaos Machine Productions. They will be joined by Robbie Thompson, who will contribute to the script, and Warner Bros. Television, already in charge of Supernatural.

Jensen Ackles said to Deadline: “After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

Eric Kripke, creator of the Supernatural series, applauded the project on Twitter, saying:

As Eric Kripke implied in his tweet, Jared Padalecki, now the star of the series Walker, is not associated with the project. The actor who played Sam Winchester has reacted on Twitter by saying:

And you, are you looking forward to this prequel?
