Casting News : Anna Faris leaves Mom, Alan Ritchson will be Jack Reacher, Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new series, …

Departures, new projects, promotions: there have been many announcements in the last few days on the series side. Let’s take stock of the situation.

Mom – CBS
Anna Faris
will not be back in Mom‘s eighth season. The series of Chuck Lorre will explain the absence of Christy’s character and the role will not be cast again. In a press release, Anna Faris says: “The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I’m so thankful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family.” (Source)

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist – NBC
Four actors from NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist are promoted to series regulars for the second season. They are Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas and Kapil Talwalkar. They respectively play Zoey’s older brother David, Emily, her sister-in-law, and Zoey’s colleagues Leif and Tobin. (Source)

Jack Reacher – Amazon Prime Video
Alan Ritchson
, currently appearing in the Titans series, has been chosen by Amazon Studios to play Jack Reacher in the eponymous series. The first season will be based on The Killing Floor, the first novel in the Jack Reacher saga written by Lee Child. Nick Santora (Scorpion, Breakout Kings) will act as writer and showrunner while Lee Child is executive producer of the series. (Source)

9-1-1: Lone Star – Fox
For the second season, 9-1-1: Lone Star welcomes Gina Torres (Suits, Pearsons) in a regular role. She will play Tommy Vega, a woman who hung up her uniform to raise her twin daughters and is back in action after her husband’s restaurant closes due to the COVID-19 epidemic. (Source)

Days of Our Lives – NBC
Tamara Braun will resume her role as Ava Vitali in the Days of Our Lives series four years after her departure. According to Ken Corday, executive producer of the soap opera, this return will be “important, not only for Steve and Kayla, but also for her son, Tripp”. The return of Tamara Braun comes at a time when the show is facing many departures including Kristian Alfonso, Greg Vaughn and Victoria Konefal. (Source)

Big Mouth – Netflix
Missy Foreman-Greenwald will have a new voice in season 4 of the animated series Big Mouth. Indeed, Ayo Edebiri (Sunnyside) will replace Jenny Slate in dubbing. The actress will also act as a scriptwriter for season 5. This replacement comes after Jenny Slate decided to give up the role to allow a black actress to dub this character. (Source)

9-1-1 – Fox
John Harlan Kim (The Librarians) will have a greater on-screen presence in season 4 of 9-1-1. The actor, whose character Albert Kim was introduced in the third season, has just been promoted to regular for the coming season. He will play with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi and Jennifer Love Hewitt.. (Source)

Maid – Netflix
Margaret Qualley (Fosse/Verdon) joins the Netflix adaptation of Stephanie Land‘s Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive. She will play the title role, that of a single mother who works as a maid to survive as she struggles with poverty, street life and bureaucracy. (Source)

Star Trek: Discovery– CBS All Access
The third season of Star Trek: Discovery is set to make franchise history by including transgender and non-binary characters for the first time. Ian Alexander (The OA) will play a transgender character named Gray who is eager to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a Trill host. For his part, Blu del Barrio will play Adira, a highly intelligent non-binary character who forms an unexpected bond with Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp) and Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz). In a statement, Michelle Paradise, co-showrunner and executive producer on Star Trek: Discovery, said: Star Trek has always made a mission of giving visibility to underrepresented communities because it believes in showing people that a future without division on the basis of race, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation is entirely within our reach. We take pride in working closely with Blu del Barrio, Ian Alexander and Nick Adams at GLAAD to create the extraordinary characters of Adira and Gray, and bring their stories to life with empathy, understanding, empowerment and joy.” (Source)

Chicago Fire – NBC
Recurring since season 7, Daniel Kyri will return as a regular in season 9 of Chicago Fire. Derek Haas, showrunner of the series, says about this comeback : “[I’m] very excited Daniel is gonna be a series regular this year, Ritter has become a big part of Firehouse 51, and Daniel plays him with a sincerity and depth that always makes the room excited to write for him. Expect to see some big Ritter action in Season 9.” (Source)

Yours, Mine & Paul – ABC
Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) has been chosen to play the title role in the sitcom Yours, Mine & Paul, starring Ty Burrell as Executive Producer. She will play Lauren, an impulsive young woman, archetypal of the millenials, who agrees to be a surrogate mother for her best friend Paul and her husband Xander. The latter and Lauren hate each other but will have to face possible co-parenting as Paul suddenly dies during the pregnancy. (Source)

The Wheel of Time – Amazon Prime Video
The adaptation of Robert Jordan‘s novels welcomes five new members to the cast: Sophie Okonedo (Racthed) as Siuan Sanche, Kae Alexander (Deep State) as Min Farshaw, Kate Fleetwood (Harlots) as Liandrin Guirale, Peter Franzen (Vikings) as Stepin and Clare Perkins (EastEnders) as Kerene Nagashi. Leverage – IMDb TV
The Leverage reboot adds an extra name to the cast. Aleyse Shannon (Charmed) will appear as a regular and will play Breanna Casey, Alex Hardison’s sister. As a member of the Leverage team, she will have to learn to trust her new family. (Source)

Social Distance – Netflix
The streaming giant presented the casting of its Social Distance series through a video. Among the names revealed, we can retain Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Oscar Nunez (The Office), Danielle Brooks (Orange is The New Black) and Peter Scanavino (Scandal).

Martin Lawrence (Martin) and Snoop Dogg (Utopia Falls) will play in the pilot of the political drama Game. They will play two friends who are going into politics in the city of Washington DC. The project is developed from an idea by Patrick Aison (Treadstone). (Source)

Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator) is announced to the casting of a series in the making by Nick Santora (Scorpion). This project is described as an international spy drama centered on a father and his daughter. Arnold Schwarzenegger would play the role of the father.
