Due to the current health situation, casting announcements are in short supply. Nevertheless, some channels and streaming services have released a few updates in the last few days. Let’s take a look.
The Mysterious Benedict Society – Hulu
The series adaptation of the novel The Mysterious Benedict Society, written by Trenton Lee Stewart, broadens his cast. Although Tony Hale (Veep) had already been announced for the title role, he is now joined by eight series regulars: Kristen Schaal (The Last Man on Earth), MaameYaa Boafo (Bluff City Law), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), Gia Sandhu (The Indian Detective), Mystic Inscho, Emmy DeOliveira (Flaked), Seth Carr (Knight Squad) et Marta Timofeeva (Psikhologini)
For those who are not familiar with the novel The Mysterious Benedict Society, here is a summary of it. When a peculiar advertisement appears in the newspaper for children to take part in a secret mission, children everywhere sit a series of mysterious tests. In the end, just four children succeed: Reynie, Kate, Sticky and Constance. They have three things in common: they are honest, remarkably talented and orphans. They must go undercover at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened where the only rule is that there are no rules. There they must work as a team to save not only themselves, but also the world outside the walls.
Pivoting – Fox
Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings) and Tommy Dewey (Casual) will be the stars of the comedy Pivoting. The series, which will be broadcast on Fox, follows three women, Amy (Eliza Coupe), Jodie and Sarah, who, after the death of their childhood best friend, decide to find happiness at all costs. Together they make a series of impulsive and ill-considered decisions that prove it’s never too late to ruin your life. Tommy Dewey will play Henry, Amy’s husband.
Leverage – IMDb TV
A reboot of Leverage, TNT’s flagship series for 5 seasons, is being prepared for IMDb TV, the free streaming service of the popular website. The leading role of this 13-episode series will be played by Noah Wyle (ER, Falling Skies). He will be joined by the actors of the original series except for Timothy Hutton who is currently facing charges of sexual assault. Beth Riesgraf will return as Parker, Gina Bellman as Sophie Devereaux and Christian Kane as Eliot Spencer. Aldis Hodge is also likely to return as Alec Hardison if his schedule allows it.
The Cleaning Lady – Fox
Elodie Yung will replace Shannyn Sossamon in the leading role in The Cleaning Lady series, currently under development for FOX. The actress, previously appearing in Daredevil and The Defenders, will play Reyna Salonga, a smart Cambodian doctor who works at a prestigious medical center in Manila, Philippines, where she met her husband. After their son is diagnosed with a rare and potentially fatal immunodeficiency disease, she decides to travel to the United States to save him. But things don’t go according to plan and Reyna will do everything she can to keep fighting, even if it means becoming a maid and breaking the law.
And also…
Stellan Skarsgard (Chernobyl) and Kyle Soller (Poldark) are joining the Star Wars series revolving around the character of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). No further details about their roles have been revealed. The series will take place before the events of Rogue One and will follow Cassian Andor at the beginning of the rebellion against the Empire.
