After The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, Let It Snow and Paper Towns, another John Green novel is getting its own film adaptation. This time it’s Turtles All the Way Down, brought to the screen by Hannah Marks (Don’t Make Me Go) for the streaming platform MAX.

The synopsis released by the platform tells us thatTurtles All the Way Down’ tackles anxiety through its 17-year-old protagonist, Aza Holmes (Isabela Merced). It’s not easy being Aza, but she’s trying… trying to be a good daughter, a good friend and a good student, all while navigating an endless barrage of invasive, obsessive thoughts that she cannot control. When she reconnects with Davis, her childhood crush, Aza is confronted with fundamental questions about her potential for love, happiness, friendship and hope”.

This synopsis and the trailer presented by MAX do not mention one of the plots at the heart of John Green‘s novel, namely the disappearance of Russell Pickett, Davis’ father. Will this aspect of the story be included in Hannah Marks’ feature film? We’ll have to wait until May 2, 2024, the movie’s release date, to find out.

In addition to Isabela Merced, soon to appear in season 2 of The Last of Us, the cast of Turtles All the Way Down includes Cree (Big Sky), Felix Mallard (Ginny & Georgia), Maliq Johnson (Grand Army), Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever), Judy Reyes (Scrubs), and J. Smith-Cameron (Succession).
