“Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” For nearly 50 years, this mythical phrase has been the rhythm of American’s Saturday nights on NBC. But what was it like to tape the first Saturday Night Live show? Jason Reitman‘s 1975 SNL film, based on a series of interviews with the original Saturday Night Live crew, will answer that question and take a look back at what went on behind the scenes the night of the first episode.
While the release date for the feature-length film is not yet known, the cast is beginning to leak out to the American media. Over the past few days, Deadline has revealed the names of the actors and actresses who will play the roles of Garrett Morris, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman and Lorne Michaels, among others.
A dozen actors and actresses have been attached to the SNL 1975 movie over the past few weeks, and we now know that Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf) will play Dan Aykroyd, while Lamorne Morris (New Girl), Cory Michael Smith (Gotham) and Matt Wood (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit) will play Garrett Morris, Chevy Chase and John Belushi, respectively. Ella Hunt (Dickinson), Emily Fairn (The Responder), Kim Matula (LA to Vegas) and Rachel Sennott (The Idol) will play Gilda Radner, Laraine Newman, Jane Curtin and Rosie Shuster, respectively. Finally, Gabrielle LaBelle (The Fabelmans) and Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza) will play Lorne Michaels and Dick Ebersol.
