Stranger Things, which has been delighting Netflix since 2016, will soon be conquering theater boards. We tell you more.

Stranger Things is coming to an end on Netflix, but the streaming platform is not letting go of one of its flagship series. After expanding the universe through novels and comics, Netflix has decided to surprise fans of the show by offering a prequel in the form of a play.

Titled The First Shadow, this play written by the Duffer brothers, creators of the series, Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry, will land in London in late 2023. The play will be directed by Stephen Daldry, who wrote Billy Elliot.

The First Shadow will take place in Hawkins in 1959 and will look back at the youth of some of the characters Stranger Things fans will recognize. According to the official synopsis on the play’s website, Hawkins is “a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

At the time of writing, tickets for the play based on Stranger Things are not yet available. To be notified when they go on sale, you can sign up for the newsletter on The First Shadow‘s official website.
