For many, the 94th edition of the Oscars will be summed up by Will Smith’s slap to Chris Rock after a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia. But on this evening of March 27, the Academy rewarded the best of the movies.

The Power of the Dog, which led the nominations with 12 mentions, did not win the most prestigious Oscar of the evening: Best Picture. Jane Campion‘s film, winner of the Critics Choice Awards, the SAG Awards, the Golden Globes and the BAFTA Awards, lost to CODA, the American adaptation of the french film La Famille Bélier. Nevertheless, the Netflix feature film did not leave empty-handed, as Jane Campion won the award for best director.

As for the actors and actresses, the Academy had no surprises in store and rewarded Will Smith (King Richard) as best actor, Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) as best actress, Troy Kotsur (CODA) as best supporting actor and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) as best supporting actress. A quartet unchanged from the SAG Awards and the Critics Choice Awards.

Note that CODA leaves with a third Oscar, for best adapted screenplay, while the film Dune gets the most awards (6) during the 2022 Oscars thanks to its presence in the artistic categories.
