The Power of the Dog, en tête des nominations avec 12 citations, ne repartira par avec l’Oscar le plus convoité de la soirée, celui du meilleur film. Le film de Jane Campion, sacré aux Critics Choice Awards, aux SAG Awards, aux Golden Globes et aux BAFTA Awards, s’incline devant CODA, l’adaptation américaine du film La Famille Bélier. Malgré tout, le long-métrage de Netflix ne repart pas les mains vides puisque Jane Campion a remporté l’award de la meilleure réalisation.
Du côté des acteurs et actrices, l’Académie n’a pas réservé de surprises et consacre Will Smith (King Richard) comme meilleur acteur, Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) comme meilleure actrice, Troy Kotsur (CODA) comme meilleur acteur secondaire et Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) comme meilleure actrice secondaire. Un quatuor inchangé par rapport aux SAG Awards et aux Critics Choice Awards.
A noter que CODA repart avec un troisième Oscar, celui du meilleur scénario adapté tandis que c’est le film Dune qui obtient le plus de statuettes (6) au cours des Oscars 2022 grâce à sa présence dans les catégories artistiques.
