More than 20 years after the release of Legally Blonde, Reese Witherspoon remains deeply attached to the film and is looking to expand the universe to the small screen. In fact, as revealed by Deadline, the actress and producer is currently developing a spin-off series of the Legally Blonde franchise for Amazon MGM Studios.

While details of the plot are not yet known, the American media outlet reports that Reese Witherspoon is developing the project with Marc Platt, producer of the Legally Blonde films, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The duo, known for their collaborations on Newport Beach and Gossip Girl, will also write the script. It is unclear whether Reese Witherspoon will reprise her role as Elle Woods for the series.

The first Legally Blonde film, released in 2001, was a box office success, earning $141.7 million against an $18 million budget. Two years later, the second film grossed $125 million against a budget of $45 million. The franchise was subsequently turned into a musical, and a third feature film, written by Mindy Kalling and Dan Goor, has been in development for several years.
