The comic book world is in mourning. At 80 years old, Neal Adams, a talented illustrator, passed away on April 28 from a septic shock.

He restored the image of Batman in the 1970s, giving it a more realistic dimension; he was the origin of one of the first black superheroes with the creation of the character of Jon Stewart in “Green Lantern” and he fought for the rights of authors. We are of course talking about Neal Adams, the famous American cartoonist who is unfortunately in the news these last days: he has just passed away at the age of 80.

The realistic side of Batman

He started in the business in the 1960s before switching to advertising. He finally returned to his first love by drawing comics. It is his redefinition of Batman that will make him known to the general public. Together with Dennis O’Neil, he gave Batman a darker, more realistic side, features that fans of the genre would love.

But Neal Adams was not ONLY a great illustrator. Throughout his career, the artist fought for the rights of comic book authors. Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel owe him the recognition of the rights for Superman. The illustrator eventually started his own production company, Continuity.
