Spoiler Alert: this article and the teaser contain spoilers from the third season of Stranger Things.

Netflix likes surprises and has just proved it once again by unveiling, without any warning, the first teaser of the 4th season of Stranger Things. A 50-second video that has set the internet on fire and confirms the return of a character that is very much appreciated by the fans of the series.

For this first promotional video, we leave Hawkins and head for the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka (Russia) where prisoners are working on a railway construction site. The camera then stops on a particular prisoner who turns out to be Jim Hopper (David Harbour). The sheriff, who sacrificed himself at the end of season 3 to close the door of The Upside Down, is alive and well as many fans suspected. It must be said that the post-credit scene of the last episode had kept the hope alive since we discovered that an American was being held in a Russian prison that was also holding a… Demogorgon.

After the release of this video, the Duffer brothers stated: “We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper. Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything“. They added that: “Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime – pray for the American.”

For the moment, no release date for season 4 of Stranger Things has been revealed by Netflix.
