Almost ten years after the release of Scream 4, Neve Campbell is ready to return to a character she knows well: that of Sidney Prescott. The actress has officially signed on for the fifth installment directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, two filmmakers involved in the Radio Silence collective (V/H/S, Ready or Not).
In a statement, the actress states: “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the ‘Scream‘ franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro”.
Radio Silence for its part has said: “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream‘ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro”.
Six more actors will be added to the cast of Scream 5
Expected to hit theaters on January 14, 2022, the fifth installment of the saga will feature five new cast members: Jack Quaid (The Boys), Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Mason Gooding (Love, Victor), Melissa Barrera (Vida), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why) and Mikey Madison (Better Things). No details of their roles have been revealed.
In addition to these six new members, Scream 5 will also feature the return of Marley Shelton, the actress who played the role of Officer Judy Hicks in the fourth movie.
