A few weeks after unveiling its 2023-2024 schedule, NBC has sealed the fate of two of its series that were still in limbo. The network has confirmed that Grand Crew and Young Rock will not return for new seasons.

NBC closes the bar

While the Grand Crew series attracted an average of 1.6 million viewers in its first season, the second season only managed to attract 1.2 million viewers per week during the 2022-2023 season. In addition to this drop in total viewers, the series also saw a significant drop in the coveted 18-49 demographic. So there was no room for optimism, and NBC’s decision only confirmed what many had feared: Grand Crew will not be getting a Season 3.

Starring Echo Kellum, Nicole Byer, Justin Cunningham, Aaron Jennings, Carl Tart and Grasie Mercedes, the series follows a group of African-American friends who gather at a wine bar to share the ups and downs of their respective lives. Following its cancellation, the series now has a total of 20 episodes.

Game over for Young Rock

Launched in 2021 on NBC, Young Rock revisits the youth of Dwayne Johnson, one of wrestling’s biggest stars, known in the ring as The Rock. Despite an encouraging start, ratings have only declined over the seasons, and the decision not to renew Jeff Chiang and Nahnatchka Khan‘s program will come as no surprise to those who follow the weekly numbers for American series.

While Season 1 averaged over 3 million viewers, Young Rock‘s total viewership dropped sharply to 2.23 million in Season 2. Season 3 didn’t reverse the trend, on the contrary, as the series lost an average of 800,000 viewers to reach 1.4 million per episode.

The series consists of 37 episodes and stars Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant and Uli Latukefu, all of them playing Dwayne Johnson at different stages of his youth. The cast also includes Stacey Leilua (Ata Johnson), Joseph Lee Andersonn (Rocky Johnson), Ana Tuisila (Lia Maivia), Fasitua Amosa (Sika Anoa’i), John Tui (Afa Anoa’i), Brett Azar (The Iron Sheik), Ryan Pinkston (Downtown Bruno), Kevin Makely (‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage), Matthew Willig (André the Giant) and Adam Ray (Vince McMahon).
