If you’re having trouble navigating Disney’s release schedule, the changes the company has made won’t help. This Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the studio overhauled its entire schedule due to production delays and the writers strike currently affecting the United States. Let’s take a look.

Complete change for MCU movies

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), accustomed to postponements, will have to update their calendars once again. The release dates for the majority of Marvel’s upcoming Phase 5 and 6 films have been pushed back several months. The only positive news is that Deadpool 3 will arrive sooner than expected, in 2024.

  • Deadpool 3: May 3, 2024 (instead of November 8, 2024)
  • Captain America: Brave New World: July 26, 2024 (instead of May 3, 2024)
  • Thunderbolts: December 20, 2024 (instead of July 26, 2024)
  • Blade: February 14, 2025 (instead of September 6, 2024)
  • Fantastic Four: May 2, 2025 (instead of February 14, 2025)
  • Avengers: Kang Dynasty: 1ᵉʳ May 2026 (instead of 2 May 2025)
  • Avengers: Secret Wars: May 7, 2027 (instead of May 1, 2026)

Two Star Wars films in 2026

As announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, the Star Wars franchise will return to the big screen with three new films. Two of them will be released in 2026, on May 22 and December 18, while the third will hit movie theaters on December 17, 2027.

The feature films will be directed by Dave Filoni, James Mangold and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Dave Filoni‘s film will wrap up the interconnected stories of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka series, while James Mangold‘s film will go back to the early days of the Jedi. The film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will see the return of Rey (Daisy Ridley) as she attempts to establish a new Jedi Order.

The last Avatar movie to be released in… 2031

While 2022 marks the return of Avatar to the big screen, you’ll have to be patient to discover the next three chapters of James Cameron‘s saga.

Avatar 3, originally scheduled for December 20, 2024, will now be released on December 19, 2025. Avatar 4, originally scheduled for December 18, 2026, will now be released on December 21, 2029. As a result of these delays, Avatar 5 will not be released until December 19, 2031 (instead of December 22, 2028).

At the same time, Disney has announced the release dates for the new feature film Alien (August 16, 2024) and the live-action film Vaiana (June 27, 2025).
