On Saturday, December 11, the novelist Anne Rice passed away at the age of 80. The author of “Interview with the Vampire” had become a major figure in fantasy literature.

It was the bad news of this beginning of week: the death of the novelist Anne Rice, at the age of 80 years old. Known for her fantasy novels, the author had become THE vampire specialist. She died due to complications from a stroke.

The queen of sagas

Her writing career began in 1976 with the famous Interview with The Vampire, which was adapted into a movie in 1994 starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The novel was also the starting point for a first saga, “The Vampire Chronicles”. Anne Rice will quickly become an emblematic figure of the bit-lit thanks to other series that will also be very successful. “Lives of the Mayfair Witches”, “Christ the Lord”, “The Wolf Gift Chronicles” and “Ramses the Damned” are among the more than 100 million books the author has sold worldwide.

A profitable pen

Anne Rice also wrote stand-alone novels and short stories, including “Cry to Heaven” and “Servant of the Bones”. Sometimes adapted for the big screen or in comics, Anne Rice’s works have contributed to the renewal of fantasy literature. Let’s hope that these works will not disappear in the darkness…
