Bad news for fans of The Good Doctor: St. Bonaventure’s Hospital is closing its doors on ABC. Let’s take a look.

A few weeks after making the end of Station 19 official, ABC will be saying goodbye to another of its most beloved series: The Good Doctor. Launched in 2017, the medical series starring Freddie Highmore quickly became one of the network’s must-see shows, regularly holding the #1 spot in its Monday 10 pm time slot. As such, the announcement that the show will be canceled will sadden many.

In a statement released by Variety, Freddie Highmore said: “Playing Dr. Shaun Murphy has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life. I will always be grateful to David, Liz, and Erin as well as the hugely talented – and lovely – cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible. Caring deeply is what got us here. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home. With love from Vancouver… tequila, stat!” This sense of gratitude and feeling privileged to be on The Good Doctor is shared by other stars of the series, such as Fiona Gubelmann (Dr. Morgan Reznick) and Will Yun Lee (Dr. Alex Park), who made similar statements on Instagram.

David Shore, Liz Feldman and Erin Gunn, who are behind the series, commented: The Good Doctor has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it’s time to say goodbye. We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of. We look forward to giving our fantastic fans, the truly extraordinary Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends), and the best crew in the business the series ending that you all deserve. Thank you, Sony; thank you, ABC; thank you all.”

Season 7 of The Good Doctor, which will consist of 10 episodes, will air on ABC beginning February 20, 2024. In addition to Freddie Highmore, Fiona Gubelman and Will Yun Lee, the cast includes Paige Spara (Lea), Richard Schiff (Dr. Aaron Glassman), Christina Chang (Dr. Audrey Lim), Noah Galvin (Dr. Asher Wolke), Bria Samone Henderson (Dr. Jordan Allen) and newly promoted series regular Chuku Modu (Dr. Jared Kalu).
