The Good Doctor, The Ark, The Rookie… Update on the latest renewals

As the end of the 2022-2023 season approaches, American networks are beginning to seal the fate of many programs. A good time to take a closer look at the latest renewals.

The Good Doctor – Season 7 (ABC)

With little surprise, ABC has decided to renew its medical drama The Good Doctor. The Good Doctor is the number one show in its time slot on Monday nights, tied with Quantum Leap, and has been growing in viewership throughout the season, averaging 6 million viewers according to Nielsen data. It was hard to imagine that the show would not return for a seventh season.

Starring Freddie Highmore, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff, Paige Spara, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee and Christina Chang, the series passed the symbolic 100-episode mark during its sixth season. The final episode of Season 6 will air on May 1 on ABC.

A League of Their Own – Season 2 (Prime Video)

Update: Prime Video has cancelled the order for season 2.

A League of Their Own, the creation of Will Graham and Abbi Jacobsonn, will return to Prime Video for a new game.

The series, which follows the formation of a women’s professional baseball team, has been picked up by the streaming platform for a second and final season. While the first season consisted of 8 episodes, the second season will be reduced by half and will have to wrap up the series in 4 episodes.

The cast includes Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Roberta Colindrez, Kelly McCormack, Molly Ephraim, Rae Gray and Dale Dicket.

Will Trent – Season 2 (ABC)

Launched last January, Will Trent is the first new ABC series to be picked up for a second season. A choice that will not surprise those who follow American ratings, as the series attracts an average of 9.9 million viewers in the D+35 demo. It is also the highest rated series in its time slot on Tuesday nights at 10 pm.

Based on the novels by Karin Slaughter, the series follows Will Trent (Ramon Rodriguez), a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) who was abandoned at birth and is determined to make sure no one else feels abandoned like he did…

Die Hart – Season 3 (Roku)

The Die Hart series, about a fictionalized version of Kevin Hart trying to land the role of a lifetime in an action movie, will return for a third season on Roku. The decision comes as the second season, which launched on Roku in late March, set new records for unique viewers and engagement.

While the Season 3 cast has not yet been announced, Season 2 of Die Hart stars Kevin Hart alongside John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Ben Schwartz and Paula Pell.

The Rookie – Season 6 (ABC)

The Rookie will reach the 100-episode mark during the 2023-2024 season. ABC has just ordered a sixth season of the series starring Nathan Fillion, which will allow it to reach this symbolic milestone.

This year, The Rookie continues to deliver solid ratings and is the #1 show in its new Tuesday night time slot in the (highly coveted) 18-49 demo.

The Ark – Season 2 (Syfy)

Syfy is betting on The Ark and is proving it by offering it a second season. A decision made easier by solid ratings, as the series had the network’s best start since January 2021, averaging 6.5 million viewers across all platforms.

Created by Dean Devlin, The Ark is set 100 years in the future, when planetary colonization missions have been launched to ensure the survival of the human race. But when the members of the ship Ark One are faced with a catastrophic event on their journey, they must learn to work together to ensure their survival.

The Big Door Prize – Season 2 (Apple TV+)

The Big Door Prize series starring Chris O’Dowd, Josh Segarra, Djouliet Amara and Elizabeth Hunter will return to Apple TV+. The streaming platform has officially ordered a second season, which is already in production, while the first season has not yet aired completely.
