Bad news for fans of The Great and How I Met Your Mother: Hulu has decided not to offer additional seasons of either series.
The Great, a critically and audience favorite, will end its run at the end of its third season. Starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult, this historical comedy created by Tony McNamara was a free adaptation of the life of Russian Empress Catherine II. During its three seasons, the series was nominated several times at the most prestigious awards ceremonies for Best Comedy, Best Actress and Best Actor. The quality of its costumes also won an Emmy Award in 2022. The reasons for the cancellation of The Great were not disclosed by Hulu, the streaming platform declining to comment on the information, as revealed by Deadline.
How I Met Your Father, the spin-off of How I Met Your Mother, ended after two seasons. The premise of How I Met Your Father was the same as that of the original series: a parent telling his offspring how he met the other parent. In this spin-off, we followed Sophie (Hilary Duff), a young photographer in her thirties looking for love in New York.
Unlike How I Met Your Mother, we know from the beginning that the father of Sophie’s child is one of her close friends who appeared in the pilot episode. Unfortunately, after two seasons, the mystery remains, and the show’s cancellation will allow fans to continue speculating about the father’s identity. Again, Hulu has not given any explanation for the cancellation of the series, but it would not be surprising if these decisions were part of the new cost-cutting policy of the Disney group.
