Since its launch at the end of January, the Korean series All of Us Are Dead has been topping the Netflix charts worldwide. But, despite its success, will the series get a second season? If Netflix has not yet decided, Lee Jae Gyoo, director of All of Us Are Dead, hopes to get a renewal.

In an online interview, Lee Jae Gyoo said, “Many directions, settings and scenes were intentionally produced to expand the story into an additional season, including the introduction of the new races of zombies.” He added, “If the first season can be seen as having presented humanity‘s survival, the next season can talk about the survival of zombies. I hope to present viewers with another season.”

Differences from the webtoon

In the same interview, Lee Jae Gyoo talked about the differences between his series and the eponymous webtoon that was the source of All of Us Are Dead: “I think the level of expression in a webtoon is very different from that in a film or drama series. In trying to make our series enjoyable to wide range of people, I definitely refined some characters and made them look less violent and murderous, including Gwi-nam and Na-yeon.

He also talks about why he decided to clearly reveal the origin of the virus in the series. It was “introduced in the series as an attempt to highlight the people who take responsibility and those who do not when an event, such as school violence, occurs. Though it is another zombie action thriller, I thought the series provides the viewers with a chance to think about what kind of people they are.”

Available since January 28, 2022 on Netflix, the first season of All of Us Are Dead consists of 12 episodes. The cast includes Park Ji-hu (Little Women), Yoon Chan-young (Everything and Nothing), Park Solomon (Sweet Revenge), Cho Yi-hyun (School 2021), Yoo In-soo (Chocolate) and Lee You-Mi (It’s Okay to Be Sensitive).
