More than a year after announcing Byeon Woo-seok in the lead role of its live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, Netflix has revealed the names of five new cast members who will portray several characters well-known to readers of the webtoon.
Han So-hee (The Creature of Kyŏngsŏng, My Name) will play Cha Hae-In, South Korea’s only S-rank hunter. A master of the longsword, her fate will be closely intertwined with that of Sung Jin-Woo (Byeon Woo-seok).
Kang You-seok (Resident Playbook, Light on Me) will play Yoo Jin-Ho, a C-rank hunter from a family that heads a major conglomerate. After exploring a dungeon with Jin-Woo, he will grow close to him and come to regard him as a brother.
Sung Jun (The Fiery Priest, High Society) and Lee Sung-min (Teach You a Lesson, Shadow Detective) will play two members of the Korean Hunters Association. The former will play Woo Jin-chul, an A-rank hunter and chief inspector of the Association’s surveillance team. Tasked with monitoring the hunters, he will also be the first to suspect that Sung Jin-woo may have become aware of his powers. The latter will portray Go Gun-hee, a high-ranking hunter who now serves as president of the Korean Hunters Association.
Finally, Jung Ji-hoon (Bloodhounds, Ghost Doctor) will play Baek Yoon-Ho, one of South Korea’s S-rank hunters and master of the White Tiger Guild.
As a reminder, Solo Leveling takes place in a world where supernatural portals regularly open to dungeons populated by dangerous creatures. To protect humanity, certain individuals have developed powers and become hunters. Considered the weakest among them, Sung Jin-Woo survives a mission that should have cost him his life. When he wakes up, he discovers that a mysterious “System” allows him to grow stronger and upgrade his abilities, just like in a video game. He then sets out to understand his new powers and the secrets of the dungeons.
