A new young adult romance is coming to our screens. Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) and Gavin Casalegno (The Summer I Turned Pretty) will star in Chasing Red, the adaptation of the best-selling novel published on Wattpad and written by Isabelle Ronin.
Directed by Mackenzie Munro (Boot Camp), the film tells the story of Veronica (Madelaine Petsch), a model student determined not to be the latest “conquest” of Caleb (Gavin Casalegno), the campus heartthrob. After an unexpected encounter and an attraction impossible to ignore, their paths cross again when Veronica is forced to seek refuge at Caleb’s house. Between secrets, past wounds, and irresistible attraction, this romance promises love, chaos, and betrayal.
Greg Silverman, one of the project’s producers, is full of praise for the adaptation: “Mackenzie brings such an elevated, romantic vision to Isabelle Ronin’s captivating love story that developed an astounding following on Wattpad, and Madelaine and Gavin are the perfect actors to finally bring Veronica and Caleb’s story to audiences around the world.”
WEBTOON Productions is also involved in the production and makes no secret of its ambitions for this new project. “With a passionate fanbase and incredible cast, Chasing Red is one of the hottest packages on the market,” said David Madden, the company’s president. “We’re thrilled to produce this title with such fantastic partners and bring the next iteration of this Wattpad phenomenon to new and existing fans across the globe.”
The success of Chasing Red is well established. The second most popular English-language title on Wattpad has received 261 million online reads and has been adapted into a paperback novel, graphic novel, and webcomic followed by millions of readers.
