A few weeks after announcing that Hero Fiennes Tiffin will play Sherlock Holmes in the Young Sherlock series, Prime Video has announced the names of the actors who will portray the young detective’s parents.
Silas Holmes, Sherlock’s father, will be played by Joseph Fiennes, while his mother, Cordelia, will be played by Natascha McElhone. Joseph Fiennes, who is the uncle of Hero Fiennes Tiffin, is best known for his roles in The Handmaid’s Tale, Camelot, American Horror Story, FlashForward and Shakespeare in Love. Natascha McElhone currently stars in Halo and has previously appeared in Designated Survivor, The Truman Show, Californication and Ronin.
Based on the books by Andy Lane, Young Sherlock will follow 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes as he becomes embroiled in a mysterious murder at Oxford University that could threaten his freedom. As he delves into his first case, Sherlock Holmes uncovers a global conspiracy that will change his life forever.
The eight-episode Young Sherlock series is directed by Guy Ritchie with Matthew Parkhill as writer and showrunner.
