The upfronts week is launched and Fox was the first channel to open the ball. If the 2022-2023 schedule has not yet been unveiled, the network used its presentation to confirm the renewal of 5 of its series: 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Resident, Welcome To Flatch and Call Me Kat.

Despite talks that took time, 9-1-1 and The Resident will be back on the air for the 2022-2023 season and they will each start their sixth season. 9-1-1: Lone Star will begin its fourth season on Fox while Welcome to Flatch gets a second season. Finally, Call Me Kat, the show starring Mayim Bialik, will return for a third season despite a sharp drop in its audience compared to its first season.

Besides these 5 programs, FOX had previously renewed Bob’s Burgers (season 12), The Cleaning Lady (season 2), The Griffins (season 20), Fantasy Island (season 2), Housebroken (season 2), The Great North (season 3) and The Simpsons (season 34).

What new series are expected on Fox in 2022-2023?

For the start of the 2022-2023 season, Fox has decided to focus on two dramas (Accused and Alert) and two animated series (Grimsburg and Krapopolis) in addition to the musical series Monarch (the broadcast has been postponed to next fall).

Accused, based on the BBC crime anthology, is produced by David Shore (The Good Doctor, Dr. House), Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, a duo who already worked together on 24 and Homeland. Each episode begins in a courtroom with a defendant whose crime we don’t know and how he ended up in court. The story is told from the defendant’s point of view and will show how an ordinary person gets caught up in an extraordinary situation, ultimately revealing how one bad decision leads to another, until it’s too late to go back.

The drama series Alert will follow Nikki Parker, a police officer who joins the LAPD’s Missing Persons Unit after her son goes missing. Six years later, her world is turned upside down when her ex-husband, Devon Zoellner, shows her a photo that suggests their son is alive and well. But is he? Each episode will focus on the search for a missing person and Nikki and Devon’s quest to uncover the truth about the person who claims to be their missing son. The series is being developed by John Eisendrath (The Blacklist) as showrunner.

On the animated side, Fox will present Grimsburg, an animated series starring Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Marvin Flute, a brilliant detective who can’t solve a mystery: his family. Back in Grimsburg, he’ll try to make amends with his ex-wife, whom he still loves, even if it means having to hang out with a son he never bothered to meet.

The other animated series to make its debut on the American network is created by Dan Harmon, the man behind Rick & Morty and Community. In Krapopolis, we will follow an imperfect family of humans, gods and monsters who try to manage, without killing each other, one of the first cities of ancient Greece. The voice cast will include Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Matt Berry (What We Do in The Shadows), Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) and Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel).
