While the usual period of upfronts is approaching for the American networks, the announcements of cancellations, renewals and ordering of new series follow one another. Let’s take a look.

Renewed series

Law & Order, Law & Order: Organized Crime

Back after eleven years of absence, Law & Order has managed to seduce the audience. As a result, NBC has decided to offer a 22nd season to the Dick Wolf series.

The series Law & Order: Organized Crime, a spin-off centered on the character of Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), who is now part of the organized crime unit, also performs well in its time slot and has been logically renewed for a third season.

The CBS network also benefits from the success of Dick Wolf‘s series and has decided to renew the FBI franchise for two more seasons.

FBI will have a season 5 and a season 6, FBI: Most Wanted will return for seasons 4 and 5 while FBI: International will be guaranteed to be on the air at least until its 3rd season.

Sweet Magnolias

The series Sweet Magnolias, based on the bestselling books by Sherryl Wood, will return for a third season on Netflix. A decision that does not really surprise us since the first two seasons of the series remained for a long time in the top 10 of the streaming platform when they were released.

Sweet Magnolias follows the adventures of three friends, Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley) as they juggle relationships, family and careers in the charming little town of Serenity.

Minx

Minx follows Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), a young feminist who partners with a low-rent publisher (Jake Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine for women. The series has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max.

Shining Vale

The horrific comedy starring Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear, Mira Sorvino and others will be back on Starz for an eight-episode second season.

In this creation by Sharon Horgan and Jeff Astrof, the Phelps family moves into a house where terrible atrocities have taken place. But no one seems to notice, except for Pat, who is convinced that she is either depressed or possessed.

The Equalizer

Queen Latifah has not finished helping those in need on CBS. The American network has just renewed its series The Equalizer for two more seasons. A more than logical decision since the show created by Andrew Marlowe and Teri Edda Miller attracts nearly 10 million viewers each week.

Pachinko

Pachinko is set to return for a second season on Apple TV+ as the first season has just ended.

Based on Min Jin Lee‘s best-selling book, the series follows four generations of a Korean immigrant family as they struggle to realize their dreams across Korea, Japan and the United States.

Wolf Like Me

Isla Fisher and Josh Gad will return to Peacock for the sequel to Wolf Like Me. The series, which launched last January, was very well received and has been given the green light for a second season.

Wolf Like Me follows Gary (Josh Gad), a hypersensitive man struggling to provide for his daughter since the death of his wife, and Mary (Isla Fisher), who has a secret she can’t bring herself to share with anyone. The universe has brought these two together for a reason, they just have to keep following the signs to find out what it is.

The Freak Brothers

The animated series The Freak Brothers will return for eight new episodes on Tubi. In this series, we follow Freewheelin ‘Franklin Freek (Woody Harrelson), Fat Freddy Freekowtski (John Goodman), Phineas T. Phreakers (Pete Davidson) and their mischievous, foul-mouthed cat, Kitty (Tiffany Haddish) who after smoking a genetically modified strain of marijuana wake up 50 years later to find a very different society than the one they knew in 1969.

Blue Bloods

CBS has decided to offer an additional season to one of its historical series: Blue Bloods. The series that has Tom Selleck in the lead will return for a 13th season on the American network.

Cancelled series

Dollface

Hulu decided to end its comedy after two seasons despite its critical success. Dollface followed Jules (Kat Dennings), a young woman who reconnects with her friends after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend.

The cast also included Brenda Song, Shay Mitchell, Esther Povitsky, Beth Grant and Malin Akerman.

Queens

ABC’s new musical drama won’t make it past its first season. With an average of 1.3 million viewers, Queens rarely performed well in its Tuesday night slot, even though the series was one of the most anticipated at its launch, thanks to its cast (Brandy, Naturi Naughton, Eve and Nadine Velazquez).

Queens focused on four women in their forties who decided to reunite in order to reform the group that had brought them fame in the 90s.

Saved By The Bell

The reboot of the series Saved by the Bell will not return for a third season. Peacock has decided to cancel the series even though it just won the GLAAD Media Award for Best Comedy Series.

Saved By The Bell gave the opportunity to follow a new generation of high school students while finding familiar faces such as Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Lark Voorhies and Tiffani Thiessen.

Space Force

The Steve Carell-starring comedy following a group of people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the U.S. armed forces called Space Force has officially been canceled.

Netflix announced the news two months after the launch of the second season. The cost of producing the series may not be unrelated to this decision.

Promised Land

Without much surprise, ABC decided to cancel Promised Land after only one season. The new drama was cancelled after 5 episodes, the last 10 being broadcasted exclusively on Hulu.

The series, which starred John Ortiz, Cecilia Suárez and Christina Ochoa, told the story of two Hispanic families competing for power in Sonoma Valley, California.

Pretty Smart

The multi-camera comedy Pretty Smart will not exceed 10 episodes on Netflix. The streaming service has indeed canceled the comedy carried by Emily Osment, Olivia Macklin, Gregg Sulkin, Cinthya Carmona, Michael Hsu Rosen and Geoff Ross.

The news was made official a few hours after Emily Osment was promoted to a regular in the sitcom Young Sheldon broadcast on CBS.
