Star Trek - Discovery: Season 5 will be the last

The series Star Trek: Discovery, launched in 2017, will soon come to an end. While it was already known that the show created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman would return for a Season 5, Paramount+ has made it official that the upcoming episodes will be the last of the series starring Sonequa Martin-Green.

According to the official synopsis, Season 5, which is expected to air in early 2024, will follow Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery as they travel the galaxy in search of an ancient power whose existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others who want it too, and they will stop at nothing to get it.

The Paramount+ release announcing the series finale also states that the final season cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Saru), Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker), Blu del Barrio (Adira) and Callum Keith Rennie (Rayner).

A worthwhile wait

Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, co-showrunners of Star Trek: Discovery, wanted to thank fans around the world for following them “on this incredible journey. Your love for these characters and your excitement for every episode, every season, has meant the world to us”.

Both showrunners say the wait between Season 4, which ends in March 2022, and Season 5, scheduled for 2024 on Paramount+, will be worth it, adding that they can’t wait to show what they’ve prepared for this final season.

For her part, series star Sonequa Martin-Green said she “cannot believe this amazing journey with Star Trek: Discovery is coming to an end. She added, “I’m astoundingly blessed by God to have played Captain Michael Burnham and to have taken part in a legacy alongside an extraordinary cast, phenomenal crew, and remarkable writing team. […] The fans welcomed us into their hearts as we launched a new iteration of Trek and an entire entertainment platform, and we’ll never forget it.”

As we await the final episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, Paramount+ says it will host celebrations throughout the year in honor of the series and will participate in numerous events around the world.
