In mid-April, series fans will turn their attention to the South of France for the sixth edition of CANNESERIES. What can they expect from the Cannes Festival, which shines a spotlight on the creations of the small screen? Here’s a look at some of the must-see events on the schedule.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, Morfydd Clark and Joey Soloway awarded

As it does every year, CANNESERIES will pay tribute to some of the most famous personalities of the small screen. In 2023, Sarah Michelle Gellar will receive the Canal+ Icon Award. Currently starring in the Paramount+ series Wolf Pack, the American actress became famous for her role as Buffy Summers in the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In addition to receiving the award, Sarah Michelle Gellar will give a master class, an event not to be missed, which will take place on Wednesday, April 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Palais des Festivals.

Joey Soloway will receive the Konbini Commitment Award for their work on Transparent. A master class to review their career will also be held in their presence on Wednesday, April 19 from 11:30 to 12:30.

The final CANNESERIES honorary prize, the Madame Figaro Rising Award, will be awarded to Morfydd Clark. In 2022, the actress caused a sensation with her performance in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as Galadriel. Before that, fans had seen her in Dracula, His Dark Materials and New Worlds.

The cast of UPA Next in Cannes

More than 15 years after the end of the series Un Paso Adelante (UPA), the students and teachers of the Carmen Arranz Academy have returned to the small screen in the revival called UPA Next. Broadcast on the Astresplayer platform, the series follows Rober (Miguel Angel Muñoz), who returns to Madrid with the idea of creating a musical based on the hits of UPA Dance. But the reunion with Silvia (Monica Cruz) and Lola (Beatriz Luengo) does not go as planned. Nevertheless, the idea of creating this musical brings them closer together. During the auditions, they discover new young talents who are ready to make the school vibrate and give it a new life.

On the occasion of CANNESERIES 2023, the fans of the first hour will have the opportunity to meet Beatriz Luengo, Miguel Angel Muñoz and Monica Cruz on Saturday, April 15, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Espace Miramar. The new faces of the UPA Next series will also be present at the festival, represented by Monica Mara and Quique Gonzalez.

French series also in the spotlight

In addition to signing autographs with the actors and actresses of Ici tout commence and Demain nous appartient, you can also meet members of several other French programs at CANNESERIES. These include Tandem (Stéphane Blancafort and Piérick Tournier), Les Mystères de l’amour (Laure Guibert, Hélène Rollès, Tom Schacht and Patrick Puydebat) and Miraculous: Les Aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir (Anouck Hautbois and Benjamin Bollen).

The festival will also be an opportunity to discover new French productions such as B.R.I, Spinners, Tapie, Cannes Confidential or the documentaries Chevaline and Tour de France: Au cœur du peloton.

Many world premieres

As every year, CANNESERIES will be punctuated by several world premieres.

These include the British series Silo, which will open the festival; Good Morning Chuck (or the art of harm reduction), the new Canadian series by Jean-François Rivard; Chilhood Dreams, a Dutch series that begins in the 1960s; and Dead Ringers, an American series that revisits David Cronenberg‘s film.
