With more than 20 million views, the first episode of the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon was a hit. So HBO gave the green light for the production of a second season.

In a statement released by the network, Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of programming, said, “We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with season one. Our phenomenal cast and crew undertook a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a show that has already established itself as must-see-TV”.

Co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon tells the story of the Targaryen family and takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The cast includes Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Milly Alcock, Emily Carey, Jefferson Hall, Graham McTavish.

If a release date has not been mentioned for the moment, The Hollywood Reporter seems to bet for a broadcast in 2024 because of the time needed for the shooting (10 months for the first season) and for the special effects.
