If Grey’s Anatomy will be back soon for a new season on ABC, the Grey Sloan Memorial will have to learn to cope with the reduced presence of Meredith and her actress Ellen Pompeo.

According to information from Deadline, the actress will appear on screen in only 8 episodes of the 19th season. Despite her absence, Ellen Pompeo will continue to be the main narrator of the series and keeps her position as executive producer.

This reduced number of episodes is explained by the actress’ desire to devote herself to new projects. She will soon star in a Hulu miniseries based on the true story of a Midwestern couple who adopt what they believe is an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly begin to believe that she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they face tough questions about what they are willing to do to defend themselves, and embark on a tabloid and courtroom battle that ultimately affects their marriage.

While waiting to discover this new series, Grey’s Anatomy will make its return on ABC on October 6. The opportunity to see five new faces among the interns. They will be played by Harry Shum Jr., Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, Adelaide Kane and Midori Francis.
