HBO clearly has no intention of letting go of its golden goose. At a press conference in New York, Casey Bloys—president and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content—officially announced the renewal of two series set in the Game of Thrones universe: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon.

Dunk and Egg will continue to travel across Westeros

The renewal of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season is somewhat surprising, considering the first season has yet to air. This ambitious decision demonstrates the channel’s confidence in the story centered on the duo formed by Dunk (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).

In the series, viewers follow Ser Duncan the Tall, a knight who is as brave as he is naive, and his young squire, Egg. Together, they travel through Westeros, a kingdom still ruled by the Targaryen dynasty, at a time when the shadow of dragons still looms large.

Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms comprises six 30-minute episodes and will be available on January 18, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max. Season 2 is scheduled for 2027.

Season 4 confirmed for House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon continues to gain momentum. With season 3 arriving in summer 2026, HBO has already confirmed a fourth season, expected in 2028. This is further proof that the network is betting more than ever on this series adapted from George R. R. Martin‘s novel Fire & Blood.

As a reminder, House of the Dragon recounts the history of House Targaryen two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones. Season 3 will reunite Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, and many other familiar faces.

Upon announcing these renewals, Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president and Head of Drama, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe. Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be.”

So, as Game of Thrones fans, are you happy with these announcements?
