Stand-up comedian, TV host and actor, Bob Saget has died at the age of 65.

“We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today” the Saget family wrote in the statement. “He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter.”

The unforgettable Danny Tanner

Bob Saget became famous in the late 1980s for his role of Danny Tanner in Full House. For 8 seasons, he played the father in the series that revealed Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

30 years later, he played the same role on Fuller House, which followed the adventures of Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin), DJ Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure) and their friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andra Barber).

The cast of Full House paid tribute to Bob Saget on social media or via press release. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who played Michelle Tanner, told Today, “Bob was the most loving, compassionate and generous man. We are deeply saddened that he is no longer with us but know that he will continue to be by our side to guide us as gracefully as he always has. We are thinking of his daughters, wife and family and are sending our condolences.”

Candace Cameron Bure shares the Olsen sisters’ view and said on Twitter that Bob Saget “was one of the best humans beings I’ve ever known in my life. I loved him so much.”

Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone in the series, said he was “heartbroken”. A feeling shared by John Stamos, the actor who played Jesse Katsopolis.

Jodie Sweetin wrote a long post on Instagram in which she reflects on Bob Saget’s personality (“a wonderful human being”) and how “we never missed a chance to tell each other, “I love you””.

A voice known for the fans of How I Met Your Mother

Fans of the small screen also know him as the voice of the narrator in the series How I Met Your Mother: the character of Ted in 2030. Josh Radnor, the actor who played Ted in the series, has also paid tribute through different tweets:

“Bob Saget was the older wiser ‘me’ for nine years on How I Met Your Mother. He was the kindest, loveliest, funniest, most supportive man. The easiest person to be around. A mensch among mensches. I had so much imposter syndrome when HIMYM started, thought I’d be found out, kicked off set & sent home. When I’d run into Bob on the Fox lot in those early days he’d gush over my performance & tell me how he was studying me to make sure his vocal performance felt right. This man that I’d delighted in seeing on TV for years cheering me on, letting me know I had a right to be there and playing that character… I can’t overstate how meaningful his words were. (He also, true to form, told me jokes that I cannot tell here or in polite company.) We had a very special bond from Day 1, were never out of touch for long. We found a way to grab dinner once a year, even after HIMYM wrapped. We went to see each other in our Broadway plays. We talked a lot about how to live a meaningful life amidst all the chaos. Bob loved his daughters so much. He loved making people laugh. He never missed a birthday text. He raised millions of dollars for scleroderma research. He proved you could be funny and successful and kind. There are people who leave the earth and you’re haunted by all the things you didn’t tell them, all the love that was unexpressed. Luckily that wasn’t the case with Bob. We adored each other and we told each other. I’m endlessly grateful that HIMYM brought Bob Saget into my life. I’ll hear his voice in my head for the rest of my days.”

On the small screen, he was also seen in Entourage, Surviving Suburbia and Raising Dad. Bob Saget was also one of the hosts of America’s Funniest Home Videos for almost 30 years.
