Three hours after the clip was posted on YouTube, the video for Olivia Rodrigo‘s new song already had more than 2 million views. The numbers on Spotify should also confirm that the singer is indeed back, to the delight of her fans.
An album that reflects the evolution of Olivia Rodrigo
On her second album, Guts, Olivia Rodrigo looks back on “growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life. I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 – it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that.”
In another statement, she added: “I made the bulk of this album during my 19th year on this earth. A year that, for me, was filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashioned teen angst.”
A feeling that is well reflected in “Vampire”, the first song presented by Olivia Rodrigo. In this track, the singer evokes a young woman’s relationship with an ex who subjected her to “Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise” and during which she didn’t listen to the girls who warned her about him. Of course, many people will question the identity of this ex, but that’s not the point. Once again, Olivia Rodrigo has written a song whose powerful lyrics will resonate with many people.
