After having been a hit on Disney Channel, the Descendants saga will try to be as successful on Disney+ with a new movie that will expand the franchise’s universe.
Officially announced in May 2022, this sequel, tentatively titled The Pocketwatch, will feature new characters. According to the synopsis revealed by the American media, this film directed by Jennifer Phang will focus on Red, the rebellious and smart daughter of the Queen of Hearts and Chloe, the perfectionist and athletic daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming. In order to prevent an impending coup in Auradon, which is looming during the new royal baby shower, Red must team up with Chloe to travel back in time with the White Rabbit’s pocket watch and prevent an event that would have dire consequences.
To play Red, Disney has decided to cast Kylie Cantrall, star of the Gabby Duran series, as the alien babysitter, while Chloe will be played by Malia Baker, who previously took part in the series The Baby-Sitters Club. As for their mothers, the Queen of Hearts will be played by Rita Ora (Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight) while Cinderella will be played by Brandy Norwood (Star).
Presence of young versions of Aladdin, Jasmine, Maleficent…
In the last few weeks, Disney has multiplied the announcements and many names have been added to the cast of the film The Pocketwatch. Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso) will play the principal Merlin, director of the Merlin Academy, Leonardo Nam (Maggie) will play the son of the Mad Hatter while Sam Morelos (That ’90s show) will be Zellie, Rapunzel’s daughter. Dara Renee (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) will play Ulyana, Ursula’s younger sister, and she will be joined by several sidekicks, one of whom will be played by Peder Lindell (Hidden Falls)
Time travel obliges, the young versions of the heroes and villains of Disney will be present on screen. Ruby Rose Turner (Coop & Cami) will play the young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley (Henry Danger) will be the young Cinderella, Anthony Pyatt (The Right Stuff) will play Hades, Mars will be Maleficent, Tristan Padil will be Prince Charming, Kabir Bery will play Aladdin, Grace Narducci (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit) will play the young fairy godmother, Joshua Colley (Senior Year) will be Hook and Aiza Azaar will be Jasmine.
Among the other names announced for the cast, Descendants fans will find two familiar faces: China Anne McClain and Melanie Paxson, playing Uma and the Fairy Godmother respectively. Will other actors and actresses from the original saga also be cast in The Pocketwatch? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, some members of the original cast will be present in Paris in December 2023 to attend the 4th edition of the Back To The Musical World convention.
