After a year and a half of waiting, fans of The Wheel of Time will finally find out what the future holds for the series’ heroes, who were left in a bad way at the end of season 2. Before we look at what this trailer reveals, here’s a quick recap of the first two seasons.
The Wheel of Time is set in a fantasy world where magic exists, but only the community of women known as the Aes Sedai have access to it. This magic drives the few men who can use it mad.
When an ancestral evil threatens to strike the world once more, the Aes Sedai Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) sets out to find the one whose destiny it is to save the world or cause its destruction: the reincarnated dragon.
Her quest takes her to the small village of Two Rivers, where she meets four young people – Egwene, Perrin, Mat and Rand – all destined to play a part in the fate of the world. After a murderous attack on their village by Trollocs (monstrous creatures half man and half beast), the four friends agree to follow Moiraine to the White Tower where the Aes Sedai are trained. Their journey, fraught with danger and pitfalls, leads to their separation at the end of Season 1. Forced to discover the true nature of their respective powers without Moiraine’s help, their paths cross again at the end of Season 2, and the identity of the reincarnated dragon is revealed…
What does season 3 of The Wheel of Time have in store for us?
The trailer shows the reunion of the
various protagonists who were separated for most of Season 2, as
well as some familiar faces working on the side of evil, including
the return of Lanfear (Natasha O’Keefe), one of
the 13 evil beings known as ‘The Forsaken’, the Aes Sedai Liandrin
(Kate Fleetwood) and Logain, also known as the
False Dragon. The latter is played by Alvaro
Morte, best known for his role as the Professor in
Netflix’s Money Heist.
Another interesting glimpse is of a group of Aes Sedai
demonstrating their gifts and the power they can summon.
The trailer also shows a number of epic battles being fought on
various fronts around the world…
Although the series was sometimes criticised for running too long in Season 1, Season 2 made a strong comeback in Autumn 2023 thanks to its excellent direction and breathtaking storyline. Season 3 looks very promising. The answer on 13 March.
