After Grey’s Anatomy producer Shonda Rhimes, Netflix turns to another celebrity : Ryan Murphy. The director and producer will be joining the VoD plateform for the next 5 years.

From the 20th Century Fox to Netflix

Ryan Murphy is an american scriptwriter, director and producer. His biggest hits are, among others, Glee, Nip/Tuck, American Crime Story and the anthology horror TV show American Horror Story. In addition to his deep scenarios and his stunning and surprising directing, Ryan Murphy makes a point of honor to tell the stories of LGBTQ+ characters or to characters from minority.
It’s not surprising that Ryan Murphy became one of the most famous producer/director during this past few years. Working with the 20th Century Fox for several years now, he was also contacted by Amazon and Hulu. But it’s the prospect of a partnership with Netflix that made him leave the Fox. It would seem that this contract has cost Netflix nearly 300 millions dollars and that Ryan Murphy will be joining Netflix for at least 5 years.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, heap praises on Ryan Murphy. In the past he often said things like : “His unfaltering dedication to excellence and to give voice to the underrepresented, to showcase a unique perspective or just to shock the hell out of us, permeates his genre-shattering work” and “Ryan Murphy’s series have influenced the global cultural zeitgeist, reinvented genres and changed the course of television history”. It’s clear that Ted Sarandos is quite pleased with this partnership about which he said : “[…]we’ve seen how his brand of storytelling captivates consumers and critics across the globe […] we look forward to supporting Ryan in bringing his broad and diverse stories to the world.”

What’s to come ?

We have very few information concerning Ryan Murphy‘s futur plans after this new partnership with Netflix. His partnership with the Fox will still be active for the ongoing shows and, regarding the shows and movies to come, Ryan Murphy explains that he will “[…] continue to champion women, minorities and LGBTQ heroes and heroines.” We can obviously assume that the information regarding new seasons for American Horror Story, American Crime Story or Feud, among others, remains unmodified despite this new partnership.

From now on, Ryan Murphy‘s movies and shows will be exclusively available on Netflix. This is a news that pleases both Murphy’s fanbase and Netflix’s lovers. Everyboby is happy to see Netflix’s catalog grow day after day.
