It didn’t take long for Netflix to decide on the future of its new series My Life with the Walter Boys. Just days after the first season aired, the streaming platform made it official that a second season had been ordered.

This decision was prompted by the excellent reception of this adaptation of Ali Novak‘s novel of the same name. In fact, the series is #1 in the United States and in the Netflix Top 10 in 88 countries. In a statement sent to Deadline, Melanie Halsall, showrunner of My Life with the Walter Boys, responded to the buzz: “It’s been incredible. Phenomenal, actually. I think the audience response has just been so overwhelming and enthusiastic and positive. We couldn’t have hoped for better audience reaction.”

She adds, “I was always thinking that could be a long-running, returning series. That’s one of the reasons I love the book so much…as well as that core love triangle that we saw, which is so rich and fantastic and wonderful, we’ve also got a town full and school full of fantastic ensemble characters that I think have incredibly rich storytelling opportunities.”

While the air date for the second season of My Life with the Walter Boys is not yet known, this quick renewal should mean that we won’t have to wait too long to discover the new salvo of episodes.

What’s My Life with the Walter Boys about?

The official synopsis sent by Netflix describes My Life with the Walter Boys as the heartwarming coming-of-age story of Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), a 15-year-old Manhattan native who lost her family in a tragic accident. Jackie leaves her privileged, well-ordered life in New York to move to rural Colorado with Katherine (Sarah Rafferty), her mother’s best friend turned guardian, who is raising ten children with her husband, George (Marc Blucas).

In her chaotic new home, Jackie is determined to stay focused on her dream of getting into Princeton while trying to understand her feelings for two very different Walter brothers: nerdy Alex (Ashby Gentry) and mysterious Cole (Noah LaLonde). As she struggles to adjust to her new life, the feelings and tensions Jackie tries to suppress threaten to spoil everything. Will she remain loyal to herself and find love in spite of it all?
