The long-in-development Mr. & Mrs. Smith series, a remake of the film of the same name starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, will soon be available on Prime Video. As announced in a press release, the series, created by Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo) and Donald Glover (Atlanta, Community), will arrive on the streaming platform in early 2024.
While the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series follows the movie’s basic premise of a couple working as spies, Prime Video’s project will do without one of Doug Liman‘s main storylines. Here, John and Jane Smith, played by Donald Glover and Maya Erskine (PEN15), won’t be working for competing agencies and won’t be unaware that the other is a spy. In fact, the official synopsis reads: “Two strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their identities to be thrown together as partners—in espionage and in marriage. Matched by a mysterious agency, each episode follows them on a new mission and new milestone in their relationship. When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option.”
In addition to Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, the cast of Mr. & Mrs. Smith includes Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You), Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine), John Turturro (Severance), Parker Posey (Lost in Space) and Wagner Moura (Shining Girls).
