La Brea, nominated for ‘The Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show of 2021’ at the People’s Choice Awards, will return for a second season on NBC. A news not really surprising given that the series managed to attract 19.8 million viewers at its launch and 47 million people all platforms combined according to the American network.

The creation of David Applebaum (Mentalist, The Enemy Within), La Brea, follows the members of a family who find themselves separated after a massive sinkhole mysteriously opens in Los Angeles. As a part of the family is plunged into a primitive world alongside strangers, they must do everything they can to survive and find a way home.

During a virtual panel at the special edition of San Diego Comic-Con, “They’re going to be separated in new and interesting ways. We’re going to be putting characters in different worlds moving into Season 2. There are going to be a lot of unexpected surprises that will happen at the end of the finale that is going to put our characters in a lot of different places. But also, we’re going to retain a lot of what we saw in Season 1. There are still going to be characters in the clearing trying to figure out how to survive down [there]. But one of the goals of the show for future seasons is to expand what the show can be.”

The cast of the first season includes Natalie Zea (The Detour), Eoin Macken (Night Shift), Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Jon Seda (Chicago PD), Karina Logue (Animal Kingdom), Josh McKenzie (Five Bedrooms) and Rohan Mirchandaney (Mystery Road).
