After dedicating 15 years of loyal service, Justin Chambers has decided to leave Grey’s Anatomy. His character, Alex Karev, made his last appearance during the 350th episode, which aired on November 14. Now the fans of Grey’s Anatomy will have to say goodbye to an emblematic character of the show.

In a press release, Justin Chambers says that ” there’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years”, adding that his choice was motivated by a desire to diversify his roles and career choices at a time when he’s getting closer to his fifties.

With Justin Chambers‘ departure, now there are only three actors left in the cast that had been involved since the launch of Grey’s Anatomy: Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), James Pickens (Richard Webber) and Ellen Pompeo, who portrays Meredith Grey, the heroine of the series. In fact, the latter reacted to the news on Twitter:
