Daria, extremely popular with the youth in the 90’s is gonna be back on our screen thanks to MTV.

Displayed as a spin-off for Beavis & Butt-Head, Daria is an animated show following the daily life of Daria Morgendorffer. Sarcastic, blase and marginal, Daria allowed a lot of young people to identify to her during the show’s golden age, in the 90’s. Stopped in 2002, the animated show ended up in MTV archives but was never forgotten by the fans.

Chris McCarthy, MTV CEO, recently announced that he wanted to make reboots for a bunch of old flagship shows and movies. Apparently, Daria is currently one of his top priority. However the show will not be exactly the same as it used to be. Indeed, this reboot will be called Daria & Jodie and will be focusing on Daria but also on Jodie, a secondary character of the initial show. Jodie was deeply loved by the fans and is also a young afro-american woman. Her newly gained importance in the show will open the possibility for the screenwriter, Grace Edwards, to talk about sensitive subjects like racism and the integration of a colored person in an exclusively white environment.

In the list of projects that Chris McCarthy would like to make a reboot of, there’s also Aeon Flux, The Real World, Laguna Beach and Celebrity Death Match.

Concerning Daria, the information are still a little bit vague. We don’t know much about the project’s progress or even about an air date for this new season. We’ll have to wait to see if the new generation will welcome the show as warmly as 90’s kids did in the past.
