Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans won’t be seeing a new slayer storming the small screen in the coming months. Indeed, the development of the reboot of the series has been paused as confirmed by Gail Berman, executive producer of this project, in the TV’s Top 5 podcast of The Hollywood Reporter.

Announced in 2018, this new version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer signed by Monica Owusu-Breen (Midnight, Texas) and Joss Whedon, creator of the original series, was to focus on an African-American slayer. At the time the producers announced in a statement that the series would be ” richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”

With no news on the project for many months, fans were doubtful that it would materialize. This seems to be confirmed at least for now. While waiting to see if the reboot will resume its development, Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans can re-watch the series on streaming platforms and meet the cast through conventions, festivals and comic-cons.
